This special collaboration with Uncle Nearest is near and dear to our heart—The Urban Grape was the first shop to carry Uncle Nearest in Massachusetts, and we’ve been a huge advocate of the brand over the years. TJ was invited to sample single barrels from Uncle Nearest and select his favorite to be bottled with our very own Urban Grape branding.

About The Producer
Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey honors Nathan “Nearest” Green, the first known African-American master distiller, who remains one of history's unsung whiskey-making legends. The Uncle Nearest brand, owned entirely by Uncle Nearest, Inc., a minority-led company led by Fawn Weaver, features a premium-aged whiskey portfolio. This includes a blend of 8- to 14-year-old whiskeys, an 11-year-old single barrel, and a 7-year-old small batch, all mellowed using the Lincoln County Process—a distinctive method of filtering bourbon through sugar maple charcoal. This technique, introduced to Tennessee by enslaved individuals and taught by Nearest Green to a renowned Tennessee whiskey maker, is a key component of the brand's heritage. In Tennessee, Uncle Nearest whiskey is distilled, aged, bottled, and hand-labeled.
