The 2020 Cour-Cheverny "Licorne" from Domaine de Montcy is an excellent representation of this rare Romorantin-based wine. Crafted with minimal SO2, it initially shows a slight hint of natural wine funk on the nose, which fades with aeration, revealing aromas of lemon, breadfruit, dried flowers, minerality, lime peel, and menthol. On the palate, it's bright, full-bodied, and focused, with a solid core, a refreshing acidity, and a beautifully balanced, gripping texture that leads to a long, complex finish.
About The Varietal
Romorantin, a traditional French white wine grape variety and a sibling of Chardonnay, was historically cultivated extensively in the Loire region. However, it is now exclusively found in Cour-Cheverny. Known for producing intense and minerally wines, it bears a resemblance to the characteristics found in Chablis wines.
