Muscadine grapes are large with thick skins, yet they are ideal for eating and wine production because of their sweet, bold flavor. Unlike other grape varieties, they grow individually or in small clusters and come in shades of purplish-black or bronze. As the first native American grape to be cultivated, muscadines were notably described by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1584.
